Edge Of Dawn lassen ihrem herausragenden 2010er Album "Anything That Gets You Through The Night" einen besonderen Videoclip folgen. Der Clip basiert auf einer wahren Geschichte, die Sänger Professor Frank M. Spinath erklärt:

"Während unserer US-Tour mit Seabound und Iris im Frühjahr 2008 erfuhr ich von verschiedenen, teils recht verstörenden Geschichten, die Bekannte und Freunde mir erzählten. Eine dieser wahren Geschichten hat mich auch lange Zeit später noch in ihren Bann gezogen so dass ich sie aufschrieb. So entstand unter anderem der Text zu "Lucid Dreams":

Ein Freund von mir war in einem Club von zwei attraktiven Frauen unter dem Vorwand, zusammen auf eine private Party zu fahren, in ein Auto gelockt worden. Im Wagen war neben meinem Freund und den beiden Frauen noch ein ihm unbekannter Fahrer. Nach kurzer Fahrt stieg eine ziemlich düstere Gestalt mit Kapuzenpulli hinzu, die kein einziges Wort sagte. Als die Gruppe nach langer Fahrt durch einsames Gebiet bei der angeblichen Party ankam, entpuppte sich der Ort als verlassenes, allein stehendes Haus. Das ungute Gefühl meines Freundes steigerte sich dort allmählich zu reiner Todesangst, weil ihm dämmerte, dass er Opfer einer Verschwörung zu werden drohte. Es gelang ihm schließlich, durch ein Badezimmerfenster zu fliehen. Er ist um sein Leben gerannt und hat sich stundenlang in einem Kornfeld versteckt, bis der Tag anbrach. Diese Geschichte ist wirklich so passiert und mein Freund hat sie mir so eindrücklich geschildert, dass ich gar nicht anders konnte als einen Text dazu zu verfassen. Darin habe ich teils Originalaussagen von ihm verwendet, und auch viele Details sind exakt wie in der echten Geschichte.

Zum Ende der bereits erwähnten US-Tour 2008 lernte ich bei einem Video-Interview in San Francisco Steffan Schulz (www.strangemedia.com) kennen. Der Filmemacher bot an, ein Video für uns zu drehen, wenn wir eine gute Geschichte hätten. Als "Lucid Dreams" konkretere Formen annahm, fragte ich ihn, ob er sich vorstellen könnte, diese Story für uns zu filmen. Zu meiner Überraschung sagte er spontan zu. Wir haben uns dann über das Script ausgetauscht und per Internet das Casting organisiert. An dem Wochenende, an dem schließlich gefilmt wurde, wäre ich am liebsten rüber geflogen, um beim Shooting dabei zu sein, aber auch ohne unsere Anwesenheit vor Ort ist das Video hervorragend geworden. Die Entstehungsgeschichte des Videos finde ich allerdings nach wie vor bizarr: Mein Freund erlebt einen Albtraum, daraus wird ein Text, ein Musikstück, schließlich ein Video. Aus einem Beinahe-Mord wird etwas Kreatives!"

Wer den Clip in TV-Vollauflösung auf einer richtigen DVD haben möchte, sollte nach der nächsten Ausgabe (21. April) des Nachtaktiv Magazins Ausschau halten. Auf dessen DVD Beilage wird der Videoclip für kurze Zeit im normalen Handel erhältlich sein.

A new press release from our label Dependent concerning our new video:

"Anything That Gets You Through The Night" was the unusual title of the second album from Edge of Dawn, the collaboration between producer Mario Schumacher and Seabound singer/psychology professor Frank M. Spinath. Released at the end of May 2010 to praise from press and fans alike, the album spent multiple weeks at the top of DAC charts.

One of the high points of the album is the song "Lucid Dreams", for which a video was filmed in early 2011. Edge Of Dawn singer Frank M. Spinath explains the story told in the song:

"During my US tour with Seabound and Iris in Spring 2008 I heard a lot of different stories, some of them downright unsettling. One story in particular I found so fascinating that I eventually wrote it down, and out of that came the lyrics to "Lucid Dreams".

A friend of mine was at a club and was approached by two attractive women who, under the auspices of taking him to a private party, got him into their car. In the car, together with the two women, was an unknown driver. After a short drive they picked up a rather grim and silent figure in a hooded sweatshirt who didn't say a word. After a long drive, the group arrived at the rather distant locale where the party was apparently taking place, which turned out to be a desolate and solitary house. At this point, my friend became seriously concerned about his well being, and began to imagine that he was a pawn in some kind of foul plot. He eventually managed to escape through a bathroom window and ran for his life, hiding out for several hours in a cornfield until daybreak. This is an absolutely true story and so vividly did my friend relate to me his experience that I could do nothing but set it to lyrics, which contain some lines exactly as he told them to me, and many details of the original story."

Das Album zeigte das Projekt technisch und stilistisch gereift und weiterentwickelt und lieferte trotz seiner hypnotischen Düsternis überraschend melodiöse Hits für die Electro-Industrial-Clubs. Ganz vorne dabei der Song "Stage Fright" welcher sich noch den kompletten Sommer über als "alternativer Sommerhit" in den DAC hielt.

Released at the end of this past may, the album won the hearts and praise of the fans and press alike and found its way to the top of the DAC. Darkly hypnotic, this technically and stylistically mature album delivered a surprising number of melodic hits for electro-industrial clubs, chief among them "Stage Fright" which spent the entire summer in the charts.

Die neuen Titel "Up" und "Enchanted" knüpfen gekonnt an die Qualitäten der Albumhöhepunkte an und wenn man am Ende die Spielzeit der CD betrachtet, hat man damit eigentlich schon ein neues Edge-Of-Dawn-Album im Regal. Dem nicht genug, enthält das Album ein 12-seitiges Booklet, welches fototechnisch anpruchsvoll die aus dem Album bereits bekannte Geschichte von einer anderen Seite beleuchtet. Und er Überraschungen nicht genug, gibt es auch noch zwei Downloadcodes für zwei weitere unveröffentlichte Titel, womit man insgesamt 10 Tracks und ein wertiges Booklet für sein Geld bekommt!

Ein gutes neues Jahr!

2008 war ein sehr produktives Jahr für Edge Of Dawn. Neben drei Remixen entstanden in diesem Jahr auch über ein Dutzend Edge Of Dawn-Demos.

2008 was a very productive year for Edge Of Dawn. In addition to three remixes, over a dozen Edge Of Dawn demos were produced in this year.

Auch von Seabound, die sich gerade auf einer ausgedehnten US-Tour befinden, gibt es Neues und zwar die auf Metropolis Records erschienene CD "When Black Beats Blue (Rarities)". Diese enthält 12 rare Versionen (darunter eine Kollaboration mit Mindless Faith) und unveröffentlichte Remixe von Bands wie HECQ, Forma Tadre, Haujobb, Mindless Faith und  Die Form aus den Jahren 2001-2008.

Finally some news from Seabound who are currently on an extensive US tour: Seabound have released the CD "When Black Beats Blue (Rarities)" on Metropolis records. The CD contains 12 rare versions (including a collaboration with Mindless Faith) and unreleased remixes of Bands like HECQ, Forma Tadre, Haujobb, Mindless Faith und Die Form from the years 2001-2008.

Nachdem es einige Zeit still war, freuen wir uns, ein paar Neuigkeiten bekannt zu geben:

Edge Of Dawn hat einen Remix von Standeg's "Retribution" und Obscenity Trial's "My Mind Your Mind" fertig gestellt. Der letztgenannte Remix kann hier kostenlos herunter geladen werden.

After some months of silence, we're happy to announce a couple of news:

First of all, Edge Of Dawn has completed remixes of Standeg's "Retribution" and Obscenity Trial's "My Mind Your Mind". The latter remix can be downloaded for free here.

Zudem ist in der Ausgabe 2007/05 des deutschen Synthesizermagazins neben Artikeln über Dave Gahan, Underworld, Die Krupps und Nitzer Ebb ein Interview mit Mario enthalten. Das Interview gibt einen Einblick in die technischen Aspekte der Musik von Edge Of Dawn. Mario hat ferner gerade damit begonnen, die deutsche Electro Pop-Band ReActivate als Produzent zu unterstützen und plant in Zukunft, weitere Künstler zu produzieren.

Frank ist gerade von der US-Tour mit Seabound zurückgekehrt und hat mit Diskonnekted (Belgien), Liquid Divine (Deutschland) kollaboriert sowie mit Jean-Marc von The Weathermen an dem gemeinsamen Projekt Ghost & Writer gearbeitet.

Am wichtigsten ist jedoch, dass neues Edge Of Dawn-Material in Arbeit ist! Fünf neue Songs in verschiedenen Entwicklungsstufen sind derzeit in Arbeit, inklusive interessanter Kollaborationen mit befreundeten Künstlern, die zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bekannt gegeben werden. Weitere Info demnächst.

Der Soundtrack des neuen Xbox360-Spiels "Project Gotham Racing 4" von Bizarre Creations / Microsoft Game Studios enthält den Edge Of Dawn song "Elegance". Ebenfalls auf dem Soundtrack vertreten sind unsere Labelkollegen Seabound, Pride And Fall, AutoAggression, Rotersand, Mind.In.A.Box, Flesh Field und Insekt.

"Borderline Black Heart" hat in den Deutschen Alternative-Jahrescharts 2007 Platz 19 erreicht. Außerdem wurde auf der Seite Vampirefreaks ein neues Interview mit Edge Of Dawn veröffentlicht.

2007 war ein sehr aufregendes Jahr für Edge Of Dawn: wir haben unser erstes Album "Enjoy The Fall" und die EP "Borderline Black Heart" veröffentlicht, die beide in die Top 3 der DAC geklettert sind, haben einen Plattenvertrag in Polen ergattert, verschiedene Compilationbeiträge veröffentlicht und vor allem viele neue Freunde und Fans gefunden. "Borderline Black Heart" could reach position 19 in the German Alternative charts of the year 2007. Furthermore, a new Edge Of Dawn interview was released on the website Vampirefreaks.

2007 was a very exciting year for Edge Of Dawn: we released our first album "Enjoy The Fall" as well as the EP "Borderline Black Heart" which both climbed in the top 3 of the DAC, snatched a record contract in Poland, contributed to a couple of compilations and above all, made many new friends and fans. Eine neue Pressemitteilung unseres Labels Dependent:

Nachdem sich das Album "Enjoy The Fall" von Edge Of Dawn nach der maximal möglichen Verweilzeit von acht Wochen aus den Deutschen Alternative Charts (DAC) verabschieden musste - sieben Wochen davon hielt es sich unter den Top 5! - behalten die Tracks des Albums weiterhin ihren festen Platz auf den Setlists der Club-DJs. Und schon ist Nachschub in Sicht, denn bereits im September wird das Elektropop-Duo seine neue EP mit dem Namen "Borderline Black Heart" veröffentlichen! Der Silberling wird neue Versionen des Titeltracks, ausgewählte Remixe (von unter anderem Stromkern und Fractured) und auch brandneues Material enthalten, wie ein Duett mit Charlene April (Blind Faith & Envy).

Seit kurzem ist ein Trailer zum kommenden Edge Of Dawn Album "Enjoy The Fall" online, das am 27.04.2007 in Europa erscheint. Unter Beteiligung von Ned Kirby (Stromkern), Charlene April (Blind Faith And Envy) und Reagan Jones (Iris) wird in das Hauptthema des Albums eingeführt, die Borderline Störung. Der Trailer enthält zahlreiche Polaroid-Bilder, die einen Vorgeschmack auf das Artwork des Albums liefern. Dieses Artwork erzählt die Geschichte einer manischen, von ausschweifendem Sex geprägten Beziehung eines Mannes und einer Frau, die mit einem Fenstersturz ihr jähes Ende findet.

A trailer for the upcoming Edge Of Dawn album "Enjoy The Fall" is now online. The album will be released on 27.04.2007 in Europe and the trailer features contributions from Ned Kirby (Stromkern), Charlene April (Blind Faith And Envy) as well as Reagan Jones (Iris). Thematically, it revolves around Borderline Personality Disorder, the main topic of the album. Featuring select polaroid pictures from the album artwork, it presents the story of a manic and debauched sexual relationship between a man and a woman that finds a sudden end in a seven-story plunge.

In einer Woche wird das neue Seabound-Album "Double-Crosser" veröffentlicht, in den USA erscheint es am 7. November. Das großartige, bisher düsterste Seabound-Werk beinhaltet 10 Songs, darunter Clubstücke wie "Scorch The Ground" und "The Promise", ruhigere, melodische Stücke wie "Sapphire", "Castaway" und "October Song" sowie das geniale, unvorhersehbare "Breathe", auf dem auch der Seabound-Livedrummer Daniel Wehmeier zu hören ist. Das neue Edge Of Dawn-Album wird den Namen "Enjoy The Fall" tragen und ein noch größeres emotionales und stilistisches Spektrum als unsere Debüt-EP "The Flight [Lux]" abdecken. Auch wird eine Kollaboration mit der bezaubernden Charlene April, der Sängerin von Blind Faith & Envy enthalten sein. Wir hoffen, "Enjoy The Fall" im Frühjahr 2007 veröffentlichen zu können.

The new Seabound CD "Double-Crosser" will be released in Europe in one week, the US release is scheduled for November 7th . The great, hitherto darkest Seabound album contains 10 songs, among them club tracks like "Scorch The Ground" and "The Promise", tranquil, melodic songs like "Sapphire", "Castaway" and "October Song" as well as the brilliant unpredictable "Breathe" on which you can also hear Seabound's live drummer Daniel Wehmeier. The new Edge Of Dawn album will be called "Enjoy The Fall" and will cover an even greater emotional and stylistic spectrum than our debut EP "The Flight [Lux]". It will also include a collaboration with the charming Charlene April, singer of Blind Faith & Envy. We hope to release "Enjoy The Fall" in early 2007.

Wie bereits vor ein paar Tagen erwähnt, gehen die Arbeiten an unserem ersten Fulltime-Album gut voran. Die ersten beiden beiden Song-Snippets "The Nightmare I Am" und "Pray For Love" können bereits auf unserer MySpace-Seite angehört werden. Ebenfalls in Arbeit sind Kollaborationen mit Forma Tadre, Fractured und Tankt.

As already mentioned a couple of days ago, the work on our first fulltime album is progressing well. You can already listen to two new song snippets on our MySpace page: "The Nightmare I Am" and "Pray For Love". Collaborations with Forma Tadre, Fractured and Tankt are also in the works.

Lange war es still... aber wir waren in den letzten Monaten nicht untätig: für unser erstes Fulltime-Album sind sieben neue Songs in der Mache und unzählige Ideen warten darauf, umgesetzt zu werden. Außerdem arbeiten wir an interessanten Remixen und Kollaborationen. Wir halten euch auf dem Laufenden...

Die Veröffentlichung des sehnsüchtig erwarteten dritten Album "Double-Crosser" unseres Schwesterprojekts Seabound ist übrigens für Oktober / November geplant. Hervorragendes Material, haltet also die Augen auf!

Eine weitere interessante CD ist das bald erscheinende Album "Here And Now" unserer Freunde Obscenity Trial, das am 18. August herauskommt. "Here And Now" wurde von Olaf Wollschläger (In Strict Confidence, Seabound, Edge Of Dawn...) produziert und beinhaltet 11 großartige Electro Pop-Songs sowie drei Bonusstücke.

Long time no update... but we haven't been idle in the last months: we have seven new tracks on the stocks for our first fulltime album and countless ideas waiting to be put into life. Interesting remixes and collaborations are in the works, too. We'll keep you posted...

By the way, the eagerly awaited third album "Double-Crosser" of our sister project Seabound is scheduled for a release in october / november. Excellent stuff, so keep an eye out for this one!

Another CD to watch is the upcoming album "Here And Now" of our friends Obscenity Trial which will hit the streets on  the 18th of august. "Here And Now" was produced by Olaf Wollschläger (In Strict Confidence, Seabound, Edge Of Dawn...) and features 11 great Electro Pop tracks as well as three bonus tracks.

"Losing ground is what it takes - if you really want to fly."

Äußerst optimistisch, um nicht zu sagen richtiggehend poppig ist der Einstieg des Openers "Losing Ground" in das erste Release des Duos Edge Of Dawn. Die Ermutigung, den Boden unter den Füssen zu verlieren um endlich fliegen zu können, garniert mit dem Optimismus von traditionellem, melodischem Synthiepop, scheint ein sehr positiver Einstieg.

Doch schon im direkt darauf folgenden Titelstück schlagen Edge Of Dawn komplett andere Töne an: In "The Flight [Lux]" wird die Geschichte des Russen Witali Kalojew erzählt, der seine Frau und zwei Kinder bei einem durch einen Fluglotsen verursachten Flugzeugabsturz verliert. Kalojew fliegt sofort an den Unfallort und wird zur Absturzstelle vorgelassen, wo er kurz darauf die Leiche seiner eigenen Tochter findet. Anderthalb Jahre später wird der für den Unfall verantwortliche Fluglotse in seinem Haus in der Schweiz mit zahlreichen Messerstichen ermordet - und Witali Kalojew nur wenige Strassen weiter in einem Hotel aufgegriffen, in dem er kurz vorher abgestiegen war. "Losing ground is what it takes - if you really want to fly."

Die Gegensätzlichkeit der beiden Stücke, der Texte, des Backgrounds sind das zentrale Motiv in einer Band, die sich Edge Of Dawn nennt, aber selten sieht man innerhalb kurzer Zeit die Gegensätze in dem Schaffen einer Band so deutlich - und noch seltener bleibt die musikalische Qualität dabei so ausgesprochen hoch. Edge Of Dawn bewegen sich leichtfüßig auf dem Feld der düsteren Elektronik, als wären sie schon Jahre dabei. Doch der Informatiker Mario Schumacher, zuständig für den elektronischen Fuhrpark, hat hier gerade erst sein Erstlingswerk abgeliefert. Nachdem er sich jahrelang entsprechende Kenntnisse in Komposition und Sounddesign angeeignet hatte, entschied er, sein Projekt mit einem Vokalisten zu verstärken. Zu einem richtigen Erfolgsgaranten wurde dieses, als er mit Seabound-Frontmann Frank Spinath Kontakt aufnahm, der den Kompositionen ohne Zögern seine Stimme lieh. Aus einem vorübergehenden Gastvokalisten-Auftritt wurde jedoch aufgrund der Qualität der Ergebnisse ein andauerndes Arrangement - und aus Spinath und Schumacher gleichberechtigte Bandmitglieder. Seitdem sind die beiden Deutschlands heißester Geheimtipp für anspruchsvolle Elektronik, was sie nicht nur mit dem Clubkracher "The Flight [Lux]" belegen, sondern auch mit Tracks wie dem großartigen, getragenen "Descent", einer absoluten Ausnahmenummer, die erneut gegensätzliche Adjektive, hier "organisch" und "elektronisch" vereint.

Von Edge Of Dawn soll bereits im nächsten Jahr ein erstes Album erscheinen, und bei den vielen Vorschußlorbeeren, die diese 9 Track EP erhalten wird, sollte man wirklich gespannt sein und diese Band "auf dem Zettel" haben.

"Losing ground is what it takes - if you really want to fly."

That's the first line of "Losing Ground" from the duo Edge Of Dawn - slightly poppy, if not downright optimistic.
The encouragement to leave the ground beneath one's feet and take off to the skies in flight, garnished with the optimism of traditional, positive synthpop would seem to set an unthreatening tone.

But the next track delivers quite the opposite: "The Flight [Lux]" tells the story of the Russian Witali Kalojew, who loses his wife and two children in an air traffic control-related plane crash. Kalojew flies immediately to the scene and is taken to the crash site, where he finds the body of his own daughter. One and a half year later, the air traffic control operator responsible for the accident is found murdered in his house in Switzerland, the victim of multiple stab wounds. Witali Kalojew is arrested in a hotel just blocks away, having just recently checked in. "Losing ground is what it takes - if you really want to fly."

The dichotomy between the two songs, the lyrics, and the backgrounds - these are the central motives of the band Edge Of Dawn. But seldom does a band achieve such contrariness in such a short amount of time, and even more seldom does the musical quality stay so high. Although their music sounds like it was created by a veteran of the dark electronic scene, this is actually programmer Mario Schumacher's debut work. After a year of working on tracks, Mario decided the pieces needed a vocalist, and recruited none other than Seabound frontman Frank Spinath. What started out as a temporary guest vocalist position became, on account of the chemistry between music and vocal, an ongoing arrangement and Schumacher and Spinath became bandmembers. Since then, Edge Of Dawn has become one of Germany's hottest underground tips for intelligent electro, not only for tracks like the clubhit "The Flight [Lux]" but also for the grandiose, solemn "Descent", a breathtaking piece that truly deserves the two seemingly opposing descriptors of "organic" and "electronic".

Edge Of Dawn's first album will be out early next year - and given the praise this EP is sure to garner, you won't want to miss it.

Die EP wird fünf bis sechs brandneue Edge Of Dawn-Songs enthalten sowie drei exklusive Remixe. Im Moment sind wir gerade dabei, die letzten beiden Songs fertig zu stellen.

I'm glad to announce that Edge Of Dawn just signed a label deal with Dependent! Dependent has been my favourite Electro label since it started five years ago, so it feels great to be a part of the Dependent family now.

In the next weeks, we'll release a promotional club-single including the songs "The Flight [Lux]" (produced & engineered by Olaf Wollschlaeger @ Weltherren Studios) and "The Flight [Lux] (Edge Of Dawn Remix)". You'll get the opportunity to listen and dance to the title track of our upcoming EP "The Flight [Lux]" in several European and US clubs in advance. The EP will include five to six brand-new Edge Of Dawn songs as well as three exclusive remixes. At the moment, we're putting the finishing touches on the latest two songs.
